BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT 
A charity with a royal charter and an agenda to support the people who work in IT and to lead the industry through its ethical challenges.
The British Computer Society exists to promote and advance the education and practice of computing for the benefit of the public.

ELITE, the Computing Leadership Forum, is a member group within BCS for those who make distinguished and influential contributions to computing leadership in and across communities. BCS ELITE is recognised as the National Body for representing the views of CIOs, CTOs, IT Directors and other IT leaders at EuroCIO, the European CIO Association. ELITE is open to BCS members and non-members alike; any computing leader who meets the ELITE membership criteria can apply to join.

BCS Young Professionals Group (YPG) has over 20,000 members, the largest membership group within BCS and is dedicated to supporting and representing those in the foundation years of their technology and computing career.

futureELITE is a collaboration between the BCS Computing Leadership Forum ELITE and BCS Young Professionals Group to share the professional journeys of inspirational leaders in IT with those furthering their careers in IT.

Phil Urmson

Squad Lead at Hermes

Phil graduated from Lancaster with a degree in Mathematics and started in the working world as a cashier in Halifax. 

He was seconded as a Tester for a large project and with that experience under his belt, started a Test Analyst role at Jet2.com.

As the business grew, Phil made the most of the opportunities and became a Test Lead and progressing to Test Manager.

His current position is Squad Lead at the logistics giant Hermes, managing the delivery of a team’s development in an agile environment.


Amber Hayward

Test Manager at Burberry

Amber has been a Test Manager at Burberry since 2018, working within the Retail IT space, where she is accountable for the testing of new IT kit, processes and changes across the global Burberry retail estate.

Amber’s role focuses predominantly on strategy, resourcing and coordination, managing multiple workstreams, ensuring the right testers are allocated to projects and aligning project teams to the Global Testing Framework she created upon joining the company.

Amber is a Business Management graduate and spent 6 years working for O2 in a similar project and QA roles and is a passionate ambassador for Women in Tech.
