Contract roles have climbed faster than permanent, and have remained higher when perm roles drop. Compared to this time last year, numbers of Project and Programme Manager roles are up.
As we head into the New Year, we expect to see the number of these roles continue to increase as companies plot out new projects for 2024.

Top Sectors
Finance institutions make up a large portion of both Project and Programme Management position listings, 47% and 42% respectively. This is likely to continue as finance companies continue to develop their tech systems.

The public sector also makes up a large portion of Project Management job roles on the market, sitting at 23%. Programme Manager roles in the health and public sectors make up almost 40% of roles, where a sector is specified.

Top Locations
The north continues to grow as part of the UK’s tech sector. With the rise of hybrid and fully remote roles after 2020, we’ve seen more companies looking north to fill roles with the best people.

Project Manager and Programme Manager jobs are well spread out across the north with hotspots in Manchester, Leeds, and Lancashire. Programme Manager roles in particular are grouped centrally in either Yorkshire or the North West.
Hybrid Working
The vast majority of companies understand the benefits of working from home, especially for developer roles. Hybrid work makes up the majority of developer roles we see with fully remote roles being less common, and fully in-office being rarer still.

With most companies offering hybrid working, many are increasing their flexibility with working hours and the number of days in the office.
