Market Statistics
Over the last few months, we’ve seen the numbers of Architect roles decrease after a large peak in the middle of 2023. Numbers have returned to average levels for the last few years so as we move forward in 2024 we expect more Architect jobs to come online.
The numbers of Permanent roles are still higher than average over the last couple of years. We may see a further drop in the numbers of perm Architect roles as this averages out.
Going into 2024, we are seeing signs of improvement for the IT market on the whole. Companies are beginning putting plans in place for new projects and so we expect to see new Architect roles soon.
Salary / Rates Information
Over the last 6 months we’ve seen average salaries for Architect roles increase by 2.75%. Salaries stayed relatively steady over 2023.
The average salary for all Architect roles is around £90k. The absolute minimum for Architects is 75k and senior or lead Architect positions are likely to be £120k+.
Average rates for contract Architect roles are down 1.8% compared to a few months ago, but rates are still up compared to this time in 2023. The rates we are seeing for contract roles are averaging around £850 a day inside IR35.
Moving into 2024, we expect to see increases in salaries and rates, as the IT market in the North of England recovers.
Hybrid Working
For the majority of Architect roles, hybrid working is the norm. The remaining roles are mostly fully remote with fully on site roles being much less common.
For hybrid roles, companies are looking for Architects to be in the office for 1 day a week, or even less frequently. There’s a lot of flexibility with Architect roles to figure out a good balance of on site work.
Top Locations
Manchester and Leeds continue to be hotspots for much of the north of England IT sector and the number of recent Architect jobs reflects this. Other areas like Merseyside and South Yorkshire also have decent numbers of Architect roles.
