Market Statistics
Over the last 3 months, we’ve seen an increase in the number of support roles coming online, especially more senior 2nd and 3rd Line support roles.

The number of permanent roles has been rising and we are beginning to see an increase in contract roles follow this trend. Companies are continuing to increase the amount of remote and work from home opportunities for their employees, and we are seeing an increase in IT Support roles to help facilitate this. Ongoing shifts to cloud systems are also likely contributing to the increase in support roles.
We expect this level of demand for support roles to continue until the end of the year. As companies begin laying out new projects in the new year, we may see that demand lower slightly.
Salary / Rates Information
Through 2023 we’ve seen average salaries and rates for support roles increase. Over the last 6 months salaries have increased by over 11%, with bigger increases in senior roles as demand has gone up.
The median average for all support roles is sitting at around £30k. For more junior roles the median is closer to £26k, and senior roles can expect salaries to be around £42k.

The larger numbers of mid-level/senior support roles coming online has likely played a part in this large increase in average salaries.
For contract roles, rate increases are smaller with average rate rises of about 2.5% over the last 6 months. The median rate for support roles across the board is £300/day.

We expect salaries and rates to stay in a similar place, but may see averages go up further if demand for senior support roles continues to increase.
Top Sectors
Financial institutions continue to develop their IT systems and we are seeing more support roles come online in this sector to assist with these new systems. About 1/3 of roles where the sector is specified are in finance.

Top Locations
The north continues to grow as part of the UK’s tech sector. There is a good spread of support roles across the north of England, with Leeds and Manchester continuing to be hotspots for tech jobs.

Hybrid Working
Hybrid working continues to be a highly desired benefit, and we’re seeing companies continue to embrace it where they can. Fully remote roles are less common for support roles.

Where a roles is specified as hybrid, the standard for support roles seems to be 3 days a week on site. We are seeing some roles with more flexibility.
